With the western discovery of the Japanese porcelain from the Imari region during the early Victorian era, 1830-1850s, the Imari colors of rust, cobalt blue, gold and green became a rage. One of the named English version which is very collectible is Gaudy Welsh. China and porcelains of all shapes and sizes were made to reflect the voracious appetite of the west for these gorgeous colors. The fad lasted well into the 1930-1940s when it faded out leaving only lovely remnants. |
